Benfica president Rui Costa is reportedly ‘confident’ that Manchester United will meet their asking price for Goncalo Ramos this summer.

The striker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time after impressing in the World Cup for Portugal last year.

It’s no secret that Erik ten Hag is keen to add a quality striker to his squad.

Marcus Rashford was superb last season, scoring 30 across all competitions. However, if Man Utd want to become title contenders again, he could certainly do with some support.

Harry Kane was thought to be the Red Devil’s primary target. But, after negotiations proved to be difficult with Tottenham, it seems unlikely he will leave this summer. Although, Bayern Munich remain in the race for him.

As a result, Man Utd are now looking at alternatives. For instance, Randal Kolo Muani, Rasmus Hojlund and even Kylian Mbappe have all been discussed by the club’s hierarchy.

However, it now seems they could rekindle their interest in Ramos, who they were linked with in the January transfer window.

Man Utd still in the race for Ramos

According to Portuguese outlet Corrio da Manha (via Football365), Man Utd remain firmly in the race for Ramos.

It’s reported that Benfica’s president Costa will now accept offers of €80m (£69m) for the striker, despite previous claims he wanted €100m (£86m).

Benfica have already rejected a bid of €50m (£43m) bid from an unnamed club this summer and now Costa is allegedly ‘confident’ Man Utd will ‘come close’ to their €80m price tag.

Last season, Ramos scored 19 goals in 30 league appearances for Benfica, as well as making nine assists. This gives him an impressive average of 0.93 goal contributions per match.

If the 22-year-old can have a similar impact at Man Utd, he could potentially turn them into consistent trophy challengers again. So, it will be interesting to see if they table a concrete offer for his services.

As it stands, though, the Red Devil’s focus is on two other players: Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

It’s been widely reported that Mount is very keen on signing for Man Utd this summer. Although, Chelsea are standing firm on their asking price of £65m.

The deal for Onana, on the other hand, seems slightly more straightforward, with the Red Devils confident they can sign him by the end of the week.

After those deals, it’s expected Man Utd will switch their focus to signing a striker. Whether or not they will bid for Ramos, however, remains to be seen.
