Defender reveals details of Klopp’s inspirational talk to Liverpool squad

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has revealed details about Jurgen Klopp’s inspirational team-talk prior to their stunning 4-0 win over Barcelona.

Trailing by three goals from the first leg no-one gave the Reds much hope but two goals apiece from Divock Origi and game-changing half-time substitute Georginio Wijnaldum saw them progress 4-3 on aggregate.

In a truly remarkable – and intense – game not only did Liverpool erase that disadvantage inside 56 minutes, they went on to score a winner and, remarkably, kept Lionel Messi quiet.

And once again, it seems, Klopp was key.

“Congratulations to Klopp,” Lovren told LFC TV. “Before the game he did an amazing speech. It was something brilliant and I think he lifted us so high.

“It was just: ‘Believe! Put it in your mind that we can do it’. It was something that we’ve never heard before.

“He said: ‘Boys, believe. One or two goals, even if we don’t score in the first 15, 20 minutes, believe in the 65th, 66th, 67th minute that we can score, and then with Anfield behind us, trust me guys, we can do it’.”
