Real Madrid have made it clear whether or not they will sack Xabi Alonso, according to the number one Los Blancos insider in Spain, as an outlandish report about the former midfielder leaving the Santiago Bernabeu to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool is vehemently dismissed.

Madrid are a point clear of defending Spanish champions Barcelona at the top of LaLiga after 13 rounds of matches and have won three of their four Champions League games. However, for (arguably?) the biggest club in the world, it is not enough, with Real Madrid’s results and performances against Liverpool (L), Rayo Vallecano (D) and Elche (D) sparking suggestions that Alonso’s job is on the line.

Xabi Alonso’s problem with Vinicius Junior has got so bad that the Brazil international winger has told Madrid that he will not sign a new contract if the former Liverpool midfielder stays in charge, according to The Athletic.

With Madrid set to face Olympiakos in Greece in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, journalist Pipi Estrada said on El Chiringuito that Alonso will be sacked if Los Blancos lose.

Estrada said: “There was a conversation between (president) Florentino (Perez) and (director general) Jose Angel Sanchez.

“After what I’ve been told, the conclusion I’ve reached is that if on Wednesday they lose to Olympiacos, he’ll be dismissed.”

Xabi Alonso subsequently said in a press conference on Tuesday: “It isn’t necessary [to receive a message of support from the Madrid hierarchy].

“I spoke with the president this morning. We speak frequently with Jose Angel. We communicate in the day-to-day.”

Marca has now brought an update on Alonso’s situation, with the Spanish publication claiming that Madrid have no plans whatsoever to sack their former midfielder as the manager.

The report noted: ‘Real Madrid are clear that Xabi Alonso is the leader of the project, above the players, however important they may be to the club both on and off the pitch.’

Marca, the number one source for Real Madrid scoop with close ties with the club’s hierarchy, added: ‘At Valdebebas, there’s no doubt that Xabi Alonso, a coach they invested heavily in last summer, is the ideal professional to lead the squad.’

A source has intimated to Marca that Real Madrid insist that “the manager is the boss”, with the club behind Alonso in all of his footballing ‘decisions’, such as taking off Vinicius Junior and experimenting with different tactical formations.

Wild Xabi Alonso to Liverpool rumour dismissed

“The manager is the boss” – The five-word response from Madrid to rumours about Alonso’s future is enough to dismiss any notion that the Spaniard will be off to Liverpool.

Arne Slot guided Liverpool to the Premier League title last season, but the Dutchman is under pressure now.

Liverpool are in the bottom half of the Premier League table and are below the likes of Sunderland, Manchester United and Everton.

While respected journalists, such as Fabrizio Romano and The Daily Mail’s Dominic King, have maintained that Liverpool are standing by Slot, an account on X, run by a ‘team of five elite reporters’ and with almost 700,000 followers, has reported that Alonso is ‘ready’ to leave the Santiago Bernabeu for Anfield.

However, Marca’s latest update suggests that Madrid are sticking with Alonso, who himself gave no indication on Tuesday that he is planning to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

When asked if he is enjoying the role at Madrid, Alonso said: “It’s demanding.

“I’m not the first coach that has to deal with these kinds of situations. I think about what Carlo [Ancelotti] or Mou[rinho] would do, [Manuel] Pellegrini too. It isn’t new. You have to know how to live with it.”

Alonso added: “[Managing egos] is every bit as important as your footballing idea, your tactical work, your physical work.

“It’s working with personalities, getting the best out of them. It’s a process that has its ups and downs. You have to know how to deal with it in any team, and at Madrid it’s fundamental.”

The Madrid boss further noted: “I’ve worked with great players, big characters. They’re demanding, they always want the best, and that helps them be as good as they are.

“That’s what’s great about being at Real Madrid, working with players at this level. You have to be able to connect with them.”

Alonso added: “I know what a dressing room is. You have to live with the noise outside.

“We have to deal with that, and not lose our focus on what’s important, what we can control, how we work and how we can get through these moments.”
