Blameless Liverpool star agrees personal terms with RB Leipzig; Reds now ‘keen’ to sell

Liverpool are on course to let yet another attacker go after an agreement on personal terms with RB Leipzig was struck and the Reds changed their stance on a sale.
It’s been all change at Liverpool this summer and much of the upheaval has come in the attacking ranks. Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike have signed, though for varying reasons, many more are no longer available to Arne Slot.
Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Ben Doak have been sold. Tragically, Diogo Jota passed away.
Liverpool are running out of time to sign Alexander Isak, yet they could preside over yet another departure before attacking reinforcements arrive.
News broke earlier on Wednesday of Harvey Elliott being close to agreeing personal terms with RB Leipzig.
The German side aim to sign Elliott as their direct replacement for Xavi Simons who is bound for Chelsea.
Now, a fresh update from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has revealed personal terms have now been sealed.
Taking to X, Plettenberg wrote: “Harvey Elliott is RB Leipzig’s top target to replace Xavi Simons, who is set to move to Chelsea after the Bundesliga opener against FC Bayern.
“Leipzig have agreed personal terms with the 22 y/o playmaker Elliott. #LFC keen to let him go with a suitable offer.”
Why Liverpool are selling Harvey Elliott
The Athletic’s David Ornstein previously reported on Liverpool’s asking price for Elliott who is now classified as a homegrown player.
The Reds want £40m if able to insert a buy-back clause, or £50m-plus if a buy-back is not included. Liverpool successfully inserted buy-back clauses in the sales of Jarell Quansah and Doak in this window.
Elliott featured heavily in Jurgen Klopp’s final two seasons at Anfield but his game-time plummeted under Arne Slot.
Dominik Szoboszlai was preferred in the No 10 role last term and the arrival of Florian Wirtz has placed an almost immoveable barrier in Elliott’s path.
Elliott is a lifelong Liverpool fan and in an ideal world, would spend the rest of his career at Anfield. However, the playmaker has previously gone on record to state he’s well aware he’s at the age now where he must play regularly.
Initially, Liverpool weren’t actively pushing Elliott out but Plettenberg’s update when stating the club are “keen to let him go” suggests that stance has now changed.
Liverpool still intend to sign Marc Guehi in the coming days and the biggest transfer of the summer involving Isak is still alive despite Newcastle’s statement on Tuesday night…
