Calhanoglu started his career with Karlsruher SC in 2011, and spent two seasons with the club before moving to Hamburger SV.
He was only there for a year though, before signing for Bayer Leverkusen before the start of the 2014-15 season. The midfielder spent three seasons there, scoring 28 times in 115 games.
